This year we have a lot more to celebrate, of course, our baby girl. Last year she was just two months old, and who had time and patience to think about costumes?!? But now she is big enough to get a costume and go out to celebrate with us.
So, here it goes! This idea isn't 100% mine. I got inspired by this baby onesies i saw on Etsy. I decided to do something close to that myself. First of all, i got a very inexpensive salmon coloured t-shirt at a local store. I paid 20 shekels (like $5,50). The white baby clothes you'll see later, i bought for another $10. Everything else, i had at home.
I started measuring the shirt to be sure it was enough to cover the little pillow, and then cut the sleeves.
Again, my no-sewing policy! In case you missed it, here's my complete guide to sewing with staples.
I made a pillow case with this technique: I turned it inside-out, closed one side, and on the other side I left a little opening to get the pillow inside (That i closed later with duct tape).
For the salmon lines, i wanted them to feel natural and organic, so i cut a wide strip of white duct tape into fine strips, like this:
Here you can see that the lines are far from perfect, they are curvy, and their width is not regular at all.
So here's our sashimi ready to be put on a (giant) rice ball! yummy!
Then, for the seaweed, i took old black tights that i had to throw away, and cut it into wide stripes. I made also the head bands for us.
I wanted to make sure the seaweed was not going to bother or worse, be harmful to my baby, so i made a big connection area with adhesive velcro i had left from the nursery chair. (inspired by the baby carrier)
This part does not look that pretty, but who cares? I made it 15 minutes before we left the house. So, other than the salmon pillow, everything was improvised.
The adhesive is not very hard, so i added staples to make sure it was staying in place.
For our costume, we just dressed black, and tied a white t-shirt around the waist, like an apron. Added black head bands, and a small red circle i made with Contact paper:
And a few accessories:
Then, you take a very hesitant baby, and dress her in white clothes:
Next step: go out and enjoy!!
Happy purim!!!
