The Nursery REVEAL! - Before and After :}

So it's about time to show you the finished nursery! It's a collage of ideas, thoughts, presents, findings and last-minute additions, that i think came out very nice. It's not the typical calm, zen, quiet nursery, but a vibrant and colorful room, full of personality and energy. In spite of this, Lia sleeps very well, so nothing to worry about.

You can see the difference when you leave the wall white and when you paint it in an earthy tone, it feels a lot warmer, but the color doesn't necessarily stand out. Every person that entered the room loved it, and i'm sure if i ask them which color was on the wall, they won't remember. You can read the post about the changing table, the retro chair and the wall pictures.

I found the corner shelf in the street before we actually moved. I'm not sure if we had found the place yet, but i knew it was going to be useful. I loved it because it looks like hand made, with the little heart at the top, and there are not many of these corner pieces out there. It was white but very filthy so i initially painted it in the mustard tone you see. For the nursery, there wasn't enough contrast between this color and the one on the walls so i decided to turn it white again. But, because i'm lazy, i left the inner side as it was.

I also cut the sides at the bottom, which gave me the opportunity to place the second dresser below it, and the piece's proportion looks nicer too.

This small dresser is a lucky finding. When Lia was about a month old i found it at the street, about to be destroyed and thrown away. So i saved it and gave it a little love. I liked it so much that i decided to keep it. It's a small room, but every storage unit is welcomed. You can read the making of the small dresser.

This is the crib we found second hand, where 3 kids had slept in already, and it's in very good shape. The previous owners painted it in a pale turquoise tone, that i didn't see in the picture at the second hand site, but i think turned out very nice. At this point, painting it wasn't much of an option so luckily it blends in really well. (If you pay attention you'll see Lia playing inside!) You can read the alphabet post if you'd like.

This puzzle is one of the last minute additions. I bought it for the first stage of labor and started putting the edges together the days before. I was so afraid to finish it before the birth that i was resisting my desire to go on. Then, when the moment came, i was able to continue for the first of four days, but then things turned intense very fast so i had to leave it... I finished it after, between breast feedings and diaper changes. My mom suggested to frame it, because it's so full of stories i can tell Lia, and she was right, i often use it to help her calm down or go to sleep and she loves it!

And here... she lost the battle against sleep :)

In the next picture, at left, you can see the shelves with all kinds of office stuff. So boring i didn't take a "before" picture. So i moved all this stuff along with the computers to the living room, and arranged the shelves with all our comic and childhood books, and the happy meal toys i collected during my pregnancy. *guilty!*

I dedicated a specific place for the baby carrier, so it wouldn't always be left on the sofa or in the middle of the way. (great decision!) This way it's always clean and ready to go. It's the Ergo Baby 360, highly recommended! You can read the kitchen stroller post if you want to know more about this piece.

A small project that helps me a lot in the mornings. I was looking for a solution when it comes to washing the baby's face in the morning. Even though she took a bath the night before, it's always nice to start the day fresh. But i didn't want to wash her face literally, especially the first weeks of her life, and didn't want to use any kinds of wipes with chemicals on them. I looked for home-made skin friendly wipes that won't turn disgusting in a few days, but the amount of natural ingredients just made it less practical. So the solution i found was to use one of those multi-purpose washable cleaning wipes, and clean water. I'll write about it in the next few days.

Another thing i prepared for labor was one of my GLOW lamps with pictures related to my pregnancy. It has a color changing bulb with a remote control, that i could use with one of the hypnobirthing tracks, in which the imaginary colors keep changing. After i gave birth i used it in Lia's room for late night diaper changes, and also discovered she was very attracted to the color changing light, which made her calm down during her first changes of clothes.

So here it is, the before and after pictures, i hope you liked it! If i inspired you with at least one of my ideas i'll be pleased... and you can share your projects with me if you want!
