So Lia was about a month old and one morning i went out to walk the dog and found a very interesting pile of drawers, a little worn off, very filthy and with no handles. You know i'm an expert in seeing other's garbage as treasures, right? I used to think alike about people, luckily i learnt to leave bad people alone and out of my life :)

I don't know why but this picture i took at the streets of south Tel Aviv a while ago, kept coming to my head. But the color was too much. So even if i was using it myself or letting it go, i decided to match it to the nursery color palette. 

 

Then changed a few details in the picture besides the color, to make it a little more kid-friendly. I still wasn't sure how it was going to look like with the drawers divisions and the handles, so i did a sort of blueprint.
 

And there's a Photoshop generated 3d model. I was convinced enough to go for it.
 

I started by fixing a broken area in the plywood. I know wall putty isn't the traditional way to fix wood... but come on! I never said i was very traditional! Did you see how i sew? Besides, i'm too anxious to wait until next week and too lazy to go buy a specific material, especially with the little bundle of joy i just brought home. I was going to cover it anyway, so it worked wonders.
 

At least i wasn't that lazy and tried my best to make it look neat.

Next, i repurposed some of my room closet's old handles by painting them with red spray paint.
 

Then i covered the entire piece with a solid cream contact paper. You can download my contact paper renovation guide for free here.

 

The drawers had very rough edges that might be problematic so i took sandpaper and some minutes to work on them.
 

 

I printed the picture the same size as my piece's front on an adhesive paper. This was not very cheap but not the end of the world either, and i think it was worth it. Then very carefully i cut strips and covered the drawers with them.
 

 

I had some extra solid turquoise contact paper so i used it to cover the inside of the drawers for a super-nice finish.
 

 

It's almost done, just the bottom front wood is missing.
 

The original one was in very bad shape, so i replaced it with a new one, you can see in the next picture. In the end i decided to keep it, and the extra storage really payed off.
